ZIGGY WARD

Team Leader

I am Ziggy Ward, the Team Leader for Bredon’s Business Networking. My role entails binding all of the individual members into one efficient unit. It is important for me to do this because when we are united we are in our best condition.

I am a dyslexic student in my final year of the sixth form at Bredon School, studying History and Business Studies. If you had told me 2 years ago I would be achieving high grades in year 13 I wouldn’t have believed you, due to the struggle and difficulties because of my dyslexia while taking GCSE. But since coming to Bredon I have learned that dyslexia is an attribute with strengths and weaknesses, not a disability. This is a value we promote within our group.

ALEXANDER-JOSHUA JARISCH

Head of Finance and Website Admin

Many people say that Dyslexia, Dyspraxia, and Aspergers are disabilities, but I  strongly disagree. I have been diagnosed with all three of these "disabilities" but I would not say that they are a disability but a blessing. Once I was diagnosed with dyslexia I didn't stop trying to learn to read. In fact, I tried harder because when someone tells me I can't do something I will not cease until I have achieved it. In my first school (before I was diagnosed with dyslexia) the teachers didn't understand me I was called lazy and was always isolated for not doing my work. I remember a time my father once told me about when he and my mother were called into the Principal's office to be told that I would fail my GCSEs and A-levels this came as a shock to both my Mother and Father as I was only 6 and in my first year of education.

After this, they moved me to a different school. I stayed there for 7 years and once I was diagnosed with both Dyslexia and Aspergers, my homeroom teacher didn't start treating me any different but kept on treating me like everyone else. This meant the world to me as I was scared as I thought he might act like either my mother who started treating me as more fragile and stopped trusting my independence or my father who refused to believe that I could be Dyslexic. This caused a divide between me and my parents so I left my father's house when I was 14. This was also the time that I moved to Bredon School. At this point in my life, I was angry at how my life was unfair and I didn't trust people. I was most angry about how my own mother stopped believing in my independence and this caused a lot of friction and conflict at home so I started to board more and more at the school until one year in the Easter holidays thing totally collapsed at home with my mother and I left there permanently and got taken in

by CCP.  Throughout this trialing time in my life, Bredon school has supported me. They made me see that I can achieve anything I set my mind to. And I am proud to say that I have passed all my GCSEs and even got an A and 2 B's unlike the prediction of my old Headmaster.

TIM METCALF

Head of Marketing and Communications

Hi, my name is Tim Metcalf. I am dyslexic and proud of it because it has gifted me with a wide range of alternative skills. I am Head Of Communications And Marketing because I am a people person and prefer dealing with people than numbers. I have always struggled with my dyslexia but have found ways of countering it and beating it. This has allowed me to focus on my skill set and not get weighed down by getting my C in Maths or English. Bredon School has been the catalyst in my battle against dyslexia. And my journey to success.

RUBEN EVENS

Marketing and Logistics

I have dyslexia but I find it to be an advantage due to the fact that it allows me to think outside the box. Mind you dyslexia is not all good it has many disadvantages but generally, it is in my mind a gift. I volunteer to help run the CCF (Combined Cadet Force) at Bredon school as a corporal I also do work experience at Gaudio Bespoke Awards. I have done some tough and unique things in the CCF and elsewhere, but helping to set up this event is one of the more challenging things that I have done.  I look forward to the evening and meeting everyone and to be able to say that I did my bit to help raise money for the less fortunate among us.

SAM MORTON

Head of Entertainment

I have been a pupil at Bredon School since I was 10! I was so happy to come here because I have Dyslexia and really struggled in my local Primary School. The teachers here are so well trained and supportive and help us to reach our full potential.

I have had so many wonderful opportunities to excel here at Bredon – in Clay Pigeon Shooting, long distance running and more recently becoming Head Boy. I have really enjoyed doing the Duke of Edinburgh Awards and am looking forward to going to the Palace next year to receive my Gold Award.

In the 6thform we have the opportunity to do work experience one day a week which really helps to prepare us for the working world. I have gained experience in an Engineering Company and at the moment I am helping the coaches at a local Gym.

TOM PALMER

Head of Catering

From an early age, I knew I had dyslexia because I did not work things out the same way as most people. But one thing I always told myself is that I would not let my dyslexia define who Tom Palmer is. I  decided my dyslexia would be my motivation for success and I would prove to the all the people that doubted me that just because I have a learning disability it does not mean I cannot live the life I so choose. Bredon School has helped me learn to live with my dyslexia and find ways to use it to my advantage.
